Monitoring of heart activity
The monitoring of heart activity during 24 hours is used to observe carefully all the work and effort carried out by the heart during one day and find out potential problems.
It is a continuous recording of the heart’s regular activity (24 hours) to obtain a complete day recording.
Electrodes are placed on the patient’s thorax, and these are connected to a monitor operated by batteries. This monitor can be carried out in a pocket or in a small bag placed around the neck.
The activity is analyzed later. It is marked and the irregular heart activity is compared with the activities carried out by the patient.
It is recommended that the patient register precisely the symptoms and activities so that the doctor can correlate his findings with the Holter monitoring.
This is an ambulatory procedure.
