Eye test -Refraction
It consists of observation, exams and the necessary studies carried out by the ophthalmologist to determine if a patient needs eyeglasses or contact lenses to improve his vision. The type of eyeglasses needed is also determined with this procedure.
It is carried out in the ophthalmologist office.
The patient sits on a chair equipped with a special device (refractor) attached, and then looks through it at an eye chart placed 6 meters away.
The refractor contains different lenses that can be turned and placed in front of the patient’s eyes, and the Ophthalmologist checks if the eye chart looks more or less clear with the lenses set in place.
With this exam, the Ophthalmologist determines if the patient suffers from nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, presbyopia, and the extent of vision difficulty.
The information obtained through an eye test -refraction allows the specialist to prescribe the correct eyeglasses or contact lenses, and it also helps to determine if the patient needs bifocals.
The possibility of a surgery to fix a visual problem may be decided after the exam.
